Start with the Front Royal town centre
Downtown Front Royal is a riverfront business district in the heart of town, with more than 160 businesses. Start your morning here, then stop at the Front Royal–Warren County Visitors Center at 414 East Main Street for visitor information.
The Front Royal–Warren County Visitors Center is open from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., seven days a week. If you want to visit, check the official site before you go for its current hours.

Add a Skyline Caverns visit
Skyline Caverns is in Front Royal, and its guided tour takes about one hour. The caverns were discovered by Walter S. Amos in 1937 and are known for their anthodite formations.
Skyline Caverns gives tours from 9 a.m.–4 p.m., with reduced tour sizes departing every 30 minutes. Reservations are not required, and tickets are sold at the site rather than online.
Admission is $30 for adults ages 13 and older, $15 for children ages 6–12, and free for children age 5 and under. Armed services personnel, AAA members, and seniors receive discounts of $2 off adult tickets and $1 off child tickets.
Optional additions include a miniature train ride for $8 for ages 3 and older, free for children under 3, and the Enchanted Dragon Mirror Maze for $8 for ages 5 and older, free for children under 5.
The train runs spring through fall and closes in winter and during inclement weather. The caverns also have a free nature trail. For more details about the visit, read this Skyline Caverns guide.

Choose an outdoor afternoon
Shenandoah River State Park gives you river and trail scenery south of town, while Shenandoah National Park offers access to the Blue Ridge landscape from Front Royal’s northern entrance. Pick one for the afternoon rather than trying to fit both into a tight schedule.
Shenandoah River State Park is 8 miles south of Front Royal and 15 miles north of Luray. It covers more than 1,600 acres along 5.2 miles of shoreline on the South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Its visitor center is open 8 a.m.–4 p.m., seven days a week, but may close when staff are unavailable.
The park’s listing says shelters cannot be reserved on Saturdays or Sundays between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day because of capacity and parking issues. More about the park’s setting and facilities is in this Shenandoah River State Park guide.
The National Park Service describes Shenandoah National Park as open year-round, but Skyline Drive can close temporarily during inclement weather. If the drive is closed, you may still enter on foot to hike.
Most park facilities begin opening in March and close by late November, with dates subject to change. Dickey Ridge Visitor Center and Park Store, at Skyline Drive mile 4.6, is open Friday through Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; it is closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Check timing and transport
Plan the day around the guided cavern tour, then leave your afternoon choice flexible for weather and seasonal schedules. Skyline Caverns’ tour hours and admission prices can change, and Shenandoah National Park facilities have seasonal schedules, so check the official site before you go.
From Relax Inn Front Royal, the town centre is about 5 minutes by car or 35 minutes on foot. The inn offers room options.
For local transport, the Front Royal visitor information page links to a trolley PDF, but does not give routes or service times; check the service details before relying on it.
